California Supergroup Pick Working Name, Plot Recording/Gigging Schedule
February 27, 2002The new rock supergroup featuring Neal Schon (guitar—JOURNEY),Sammy Hagar (vocals—ex-VAN HALEN),Deen Castronovo (drums—JOURNEY) and Michael Anthony (bass—VAN HALEN) have set PLANET US as the “working” name of the project, which recently laid down two original numbers with plans to track a full-length album later in the year. The quartet recorded the tracks "Vertigo" and "Peeping Through a Hole" at Sammy's home studio in Marin County, California and submitted the former song for cinematic consideration on the soundtrack for the upcoming summer blockbuster Spiderman at the request of John Kalodner, the senior vice president of A&R at Columbia Records. Although it was hoped that former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash would join the group in the studio for the recording of the above-mentioned songs, “Slash wasn't able to make it to the studio on short notice,” according to Hagar's official web site. “We are hoping that Slash can join us down the road because we won't be doing anything serious until the fall since SAMMY AND THE WABORITA'S and JOURNEY will be on tour this summer. It is possible that PLANET US will be part of the Meltdown in Cabo this October."
